La técnica de ultrasonografía es una herramienta útil para el médico que trabaja con especies silvestres debido a que es de fácil manejo, inocua y de elevada confiabilidad.  Es efectiva para diagnosticar gestación y puede tener otras aplicaciones en el área clínica.

   El ultrasonido permite evaluar el éxito de otras técnicas como la citología vaginal exfoliativa y la medición de niveles hormonales, siendo necesaria la integración de estos procedimientos para garantizar el óptimo desarrollo del programa reproductivo de esta especie en cautiverio.
