Ha habido muchos artículos científicos concernientes al Golfo de California, como se muestra por el gran número de referencias en esta Bibliografía. Aún así el Golfo mantiene muchos secretos por descubrir. No sólo existe una necesidad de estudios específicos, sino también de estudios generales. Como ejemplos, la circulación estacional todavía no está bien entendida; lo mismo es cierto para las fluctuaciones de fitoplancton y zooplancton, y el potencial real de peces y otros recursos alimentarios no es bien conocido; por otro lado, mientras la geología ha sido extensivamente investigada, el descubrimiento reciente de "ventosas calientes" alterará grandemente nuestras ideas de los procesos geológicos del Golfo.

Este trabajo ha reunido casi toda la literatura científica referente al Golfo de California. Es una contribución importante para aquellos interesados en realizar investigación en el Golfo, actualmente y en el futuro. Tal como los dos volúmenes de bibliografía de E. C. Barrett han llegado a ser las fuentes de referencia estandar para Baja California, esta bibliografía será una referencia estandar para el Golfo de California. Es una contribución muy importante a las ciencias marinas para investigadores interesados en el Golfo de California.

There have been many scientific papers concerning the Gulf of California, as is shown by the large number of references in this Bibliography. Yet the Gulf still holds many secrets to be discovered. Not only is there a need for specific detailed studies, but also general studies. As examples, the seasonal general circulation is not clearly understood; the same is true for phytoplankton and zooplankton fluctuations; and the real potential of fish and other food resources is not well known; on the other hand, while the geology has been extensively investigated, the recent discovery of the hot vents will greatly alter our ideas on the Gulf geological processes.

This work has brought together nearly all the scientific literature that has dealt with the Gulf of California. It is an important contribution for those who are interested in conducting research in the Gulf at this time and in the future. Just as E. C. Barretts's two volume bibliography has become the standard reference source for Baja California, this bibliography will be a standard reference for the Gulf of California. It is a very important contribution to the marine sciences for researchers interested in the Gulf of California.
